How to Style a Vivian Cosplay Wig: Ganluv’s Tips for Fluffy, Long-Lasting Bangs

Learning how to style a Vivian cosplay wig does not necessarily mean rebuilding it from the beginning. When cosplayer Ganluv received a wig with its curls and braid already styled, she focused on customizing the front pieces, adding more volume, and creating bangs that could survive an entire day of wear.

The result held up through wind, walking, and even relaxing in bed—all while helping her feel like a vampire princess.

Meet Ganluv

Ganluv fell in love with Vivian from Zenless Zone Zero as soon as the character was announced.

“I have a weakness for purple women,” she jokes.

Vivian’s color palette and elegant design immediately caught her attention. The character became even more interesting once Ganluv learned about her banshee-inspired identity through the game’s story.

Putting the complete cosplay together became possible with help from her friend Kyo, who lent her the costume.

“Vivian’s design is absolutely beautiful, so I was incredibly excited to cosplay her. When it finally happened, I felt like some kind of vampire princess.”

Starting with a Pre-Styled Vivian Cosplay Wig

The wig arrived with much of the difficult work already completed. Ganluv started with Koollia’s Vivian Long Mix Hair Basic Wig , which provides the character-specific color and length as a base for further styling.

Its long curls were bouncy and well defined, while the braid was smooth and had almost no visible flyaways. This saved Ganluv a considerable amount of styling time because she did not need to rebuild the back of the wig.

“The first thing I noticed was the gorgeous pre-style. The curls and braid arrived in amazing condition, so I only had to take care of the front.”

A pre-styled wig can provide a strong foundation, but it may still need adjustments to suit the wearer’s face and styling preferences. Ganluv wanted more volume around the bangs and front sections, so that became her main focus.

If you prefer to skip more of the styling work, you can also explore Koollia’s pre-styled cosplay wigs, which are designed for cosplayers who want a more finished starting point.

Adding More Volume with Crimping

Although the wig came pre-crimped, Ganluv crimped the bangs and front pieces again.

“I need my wig hair to be extra fluffy for styling.”

Crimping creates texture in synthetic fibers, making them easier to shape and helping them hold more volume. Adding extra texture only where it was needed allowed Ganluv to personalize the wig without disturbing the finished curls and braid.

Before using a crimper, check the wig’s recommended heat limit and test a hidden section. Synthetic wigs vary in heat resistance, and excessive heat can permanently damage the fibers.

Work in small sections and avoid holding the tool in one place for too long. The objective is to add manageable texture, not flatten or melt the hair.

Ganluv’s Layered-Gel Method for Long-Lasting Bangs

Ganluv’s main styling trick is to build the bangs in separate layers rather than treating them as one large section.

She begins by dividing the bangs into several smaller pieces. Each piece is shaped individually, giving her more control over its direction and volume.

She then applies a generous amount of Got2B gel between the inner layers. These hidden sections provide most of the hold. On the visible top layer, she uses much less product so that the bangs do not look heavy, wet, or overloaded with gel.

“Let it dry, and bang—your bangs are indestructible.”

The technique balances structure with appearance. Stronger product placement inside the bangs creates durability, while the lighter outer layer keeps the surface looking clean.

Allow each section to dry completely before handling it again. Moving the fibers too early can weaken the shape or leave fingerprints in the product.

Why a Steamer Is Her Essential Wig-Styling Tool

For Ganluv, a steamer is one of the most useful tools a wig stylist can own.

“I probably overuse mine, but it makes wig styling so much easier.”

Steam softens heat-responsive synthetic fibers and makes them easier to redirect. Once the fibers cool, they retain the new shape more effectively.

A steamer can help lift roots, curve bangs, smooth unwanted bends, and guide hair away from accessories. Keep your hands out of the steam path, work gradually, and allow each section to cool before deciding whether it needs another adjustment.

As with any heated tool, confirm that the wig is suitable for heat and test an inconspicuous section first. Cosplayers building wigs from scratch can also browse wig styling tools and materials for DIY projects.

Plan the Wig Around Vivian’s Pointed Ears

Vivian’s pointed ears add an important detail to the cosplay, but they can also interfere with the wig if their placement is not planned in advance.

Ganluv recommends deciding where the silicone ear tips will sit before completing the wig styling. The hair around the ears should leave enough room for the accessories without pushing them out of position or covering them completely.

Try on the wig, ear pieces, and nearby accessories together before applying the final styling product. A small adjustment at this stage is much easier than rebuilding a finished section later.

Makeup Tips for a Vivian Cosplay

Ganluv’s top makeup recommendation for beginners is simple: try false lashes.

“They can completely change the final makeup look and add so much to it.”

She also recommends watching different makeup tutorials rather than relying on only one technique. Her own cosplay makeup style developed by combining ideas from several creators and adapting them to her face.

Vivian can look sweet, mysterious, or serious, so the makeup does not need to communicate only one mood. Experimenting with eyeliner, lashes, and expression can help capture more than one side of the character.

Contact lenses are optional.

“If you are scared of wearing contact lenses, do not force yourself.”

A cosplay can still be recognizable and expressive without them. Comfort and eye safety matter more than matching a character’s eye color.

Making a Store-Bought Costume Look Better

Ganluv wore a costume borrowed from her friend, but she also shared advice for cosplayers working with store-bought outfits.

Alterations can make a costume fit the wearer more naturally and prevent it from feeling like a generic costume. Even minor changes around the waist, sleeves, or hem can improve the overall silhouette.

Removing wrinkles also makes a noticeable difference.

Affordable costumes often arrive tightly folded and heavily creased. Carefully steaming or ironing the fabric can make the outfit look cleaner and more polished. Check the care label first, test a hidden area, and use a low temperature when working with unfamiliar synthetic fabrics.

Capturing Vivian’s Personality in Photos

Vivian’s fangirl behavior is one of the most recognizable parts of her personality. Her habit of addressing the protagonists as “Lord Phaethon” gives cosplayers plenty of inspiration for excited and affectionate expressions.

Ganluv particularly likes the moments when Vivian covers part of her face and leaves only her eyes visible.

“I think those poses are so cute, so I tried recreating them during my photoshoot.”

Vivian is not only sweet. She can also appear mysterious, composed, and serious. Her selflessness is especially important, including the moment when she protects Phaethon during the main story.

A varied set of poses can show these different sides. Soft, shy expressions capture her admiration, while still poses and direct eye contact communicate her darker, more mysterious presence.

How the Wig Performed After a Full Day

The finished wig went through a thorough real-world test.

Ganluv wore it for an entire day. She walked outside in the wind, moved around normally, and even spent time relaxing on her bed. After several hours, the original curls, braid, and customized front sections remained intact.

“I really tested this wig, and it proved itself.”

Comfort was another positive surprise. Despite the length and detailed styling, the wig remained comfortable enough that she sometimes forgot she was wearing it.

She was also pleased with the color, describing it as both character-accurate and visually beautiful.

The experience showed why a strong pre-style can be valuable. Instead of spending hours reconstructing the curls and braid, Ganluv could concentrate on the areas that framed her face and made the cosplay feel personal.

For hairstyles that require more advanced construction than a basic or pre-styled wig can provide, Koollia also offers a Vivian custom commission wig option .

Cosplay Is Not a Competition

Ganluv’s most important advice has nothing to do with crimpers, gel, or steam.

“Cosplay is supposed to be fun. It is not a beauty contest or an accuracy contest.”

She encourages cosplayers to experiment with makeup, change the wig styling, add accessories, and interpret characters in ways that make them happy.

Technical accuracy can be satisfying, but it should not take away the reason many people begin cosplaying in the first place: a love for the character and the joy of creating something.

“Go crazy. Dress up as the characters you love in a way that makes you happy.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I customize a pre-styled Vivian cosplay wig?

Yes. A pre-styled wig can provide the finished curls and braid while still allowing you to adjust the bangs, front pieces, and volume. Work only on the sections that need improvement to avoid disturbing the original styling.

How can I make cosplay wig bangs stay in place?

Divide the bangs into smaller sections and style them one at a time. Apply more holding product between the hidden layers and less on the visible surface, then let every section dry completely.

Can I use a steamer on a synthetic cosplay wig?

You can use a steamer if the wig is designed to tolerate heat. Test a hidden section first, keep your hands away from the steam, and let the fibers cool in the desired position.

Do I need contact lenses for a Vivian cosplay?

No. Contact lenses are optional and should never be worn if they make you uncomfortable or cannot be used safely. Makeup, posing, the wig, and the costume can communicate the character without changing your eye color.
